Exceptional Family Resources is a leader in providing person-centered services to people with developmental disabilities living in Onondaga County.  We are seeking an accomplished professional with skills in developing, planning, and coordinating community-based recreation and respite services for individuals with developmental disabilities.  The ideal candidate is flexible, organized, self-motivated, and able to create a fun environment for both youth and adults.  We offer a competitive salary and benefits in a flexible, family-friendly work environment.  EOE


Position Summary: Oversee the development and implementation of recreation and respite services for people with developmental disabilities.  Oversee summer programming for multiple sites.  Supervise direct support professionals (DSPs) across various programs and coordinate volunteer services.


Main Position Responsibilities

  • Oversee ongoing recreation and respite services, work closely with service recipients and their families, care managers, DSPs, and other service providers to ensure services meet the needs of the person
  • Coordinate and oversee 8-week summer programming for several sites
  • Work closely with other supervisors to coordinate and oversee volunteer services and recreational respite services
  • Develop, plan, and coordinate ongoing recreation activities for groups of various sizes
  • Supervise and monitor the work of the DSPs through on-site visits, feedback from service recipients and families served, and documentation the DSP provides
  • Facilitate introductions between DSPs and service recipients
  • Develop and maintain safeguards, train staff, ensure safeguards are implemented
  • Network and develop collaborations with community vendors and businesses, other agencies, etc.
  • Recruit, train, and develop DSPs and volunteers
  • Ensure services and documentation comply with Medicaid billing requirements


Education, Experience, and Other Requirements:

  • Experience organizing and directing group recreational activities strongly preferred
  • Experience working with persons with developmental disabilities preferred
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in a human services field strongly preferred
  • Reliable transportation required
  • Current auto insurance, valid driver license, and acceptable driving record required        
  • Knowledge of computer systems and usage preferred (Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher)


Hours:  Supervisors work 40 hours per week; able to flex hours based on their needs and the schedule of events for the month.  Occasional evenings and weekends required each month based on activities.
